About

The Hellesdon Handbook is independently owned and published by local resident Valerie Warner. The purpose of The Hellesdon Handbook is to serve the communities into which it is distributed and to support the local businesses that operate within or close to these communities. Studies show that people like to “buy locally” whenever they can and now residents of Hellesdon have a handy magazine to enable them to do just that.

“The Hellesdon Handbook  was launched back in May 2007 as I wanted to do something positive for local communities in and around the area in which I live”.

I firmly believe in providing a high quality publication whilst trying to keep advertising costs as low as possible. I appreciate the need for local companies to have an affordable way to reach local people which in turn will have a positive impact on the local economy.

From its humble beginnings of being delivered once a month to 2000 homes in Hellesdon it is now delivered to all the homes and businesses in Hellesdon every other month.

The business plan was to increase the number of business advertising, and the amount of space that could be offered to the community and articles of general interest to make the magazine a useful and necessary resource for the residents of Hellesdon. The other element was to have fun, and meet people.

A huge event that was not part of the business plan was the birth of baby Sam in 2008 with in a year of beginning the magazine.

Sam has been most helpful when I have been out and about meeting people, however running a business from home, and looking after a  new baby has been a challenge.

I am working hard to bring more content to the magazine and to offer more to the community and to the advertisers who support the magazine with this new website. I will in time develop the community aspect further. Keep watching!

The magazine continues to go from strength to strength. As it grows I would like to be able to give more to promote the local area, and its groups, clubs and societies.

I am always happy to have feedback, this helps me make choices as to how to put the best foot forward.  I will also be able to include up to date information on this website.
